SILICON VALLEY, Calif. – Aug. 31, 2016 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Ian C. Ballon and Francoise Gilbert will be speaking at the State Bar of California 2016 IP and the Internet Conference, which is being held Sept. 6, at Salesforce, 101 Spear Street in San Francisco.
From 10:40 a.m. – 11:40 a.m., Ballon will provide the “Internet Law Update,” where he will outline major legal trends and developments from his litigation practice and the latest update to his treatise, E-Commerce & Internet Law Second Edition (Thomson Reuters West, www.ianballon.net). Among other things, he will discuss trends in service provider secondary liability and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, data privacy, and security breach litigation.
From 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., Gilbert will be speaking on a panel titled "Privacy Like It's 1999: Do We Need 21st Century Privacy Laws?" where she will discuss the latest developments in the European Union data protection and crossborder Atlantic data transfers.
Ballon is co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice and represents technology, media, and entertainment companies in intellectual property, internet, and mobile-related complex litigation, including the defense of data privacy, security breach, and TCPA class action suits. Gilbert, a shareholder in the firm’s Silicon Valley office, focuses her practice and research on U.S. and global data privacy and security in a wide variety of markets, including, among others, internet, cloud computing, big data, connected devices, sensors, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies. Her clients include public or multi-national entities, cloud service providers, big data analytics companies, connected device developers, publishers, internet stores, insurance companies, financial institutions, manufacturers, service providers, trade associations, nonprofit organizations, software developers, and others. Ms. Gilbert is the author of the two volume Global Privacy and Security Law treatise, published by Wolters Kluwer (www.globalprivacybook.com) and the co-author of a dozen other law books, including Privacy Compliance and Litigation in California published by CEB. She has co-chaired the PLI Privacy and Security Law Institute for the past 17 years.
