Greenberg Traurig’s Francoise Gilbert and Ian Ballon Speak at Privacy + Security Forum 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oct. 3, 2017 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Francoise Gilbert and Ian C. Ballon will speak at The Privacy + Security Forum 2017 in Washington, D.C., Oct. 4-6. The Privacy + Security Forum 2017 will be an advanced series of discussions about the cutting-edge issues involving privacy and security.

Gilbert, a shareholder in the Silicon Valley office is co-chair of the EU Privacy + Security Intensive Day on Oct. 4. She will be moderating and speaking on various panels throughout the day discussing EU Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Ballon, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice and an internet and mobile litigation shareholder in the firm’s Silicon Valley and Los Angeles offices, will speak on Friday, Oct. 6, on a panel entitled “Data Breach vs. Privacy Class Action Suits: Claims, Strategies, Settlements and Legal Trends.”

Gilbert focuses her practice and research on U.S. and global data privacy and cybersecurity in a wide variety of markets, including, among others, internet, big data, connected devices, sensors, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other emerging technologies. Her clients include large, multinational entities, big data analytics companies, connected device developers, cloud service providers, publishers, internet stores, insurance companies, financial institutions, manufacturers, service providers, trade associations, nonprofit organizations, software developers, and others. Gilbert is the author of the two-volume treatise “Global Privacy and Security Law,” published by Wolters Kluwer (www.globalprivacybook.com), and the co-author of a dozen other law books, including for example “Robotic Technologies Law,” published by Larcier, and “Internet of Things and Data Analytics,” published by Wiley. She has received law degrees and obtained bar admissions both in the United States and in France, and holds CIPP/US, CIPP/EU, and CIPM certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

Ballon defends data privacy, security breach, and TCPA class action suits, in addition to representing companies in other technology, IP and internet, and mobile-related complex litigation. He also serves as executive director of Stanford University Law School’s Center for E-Commerce. He was most recently included on the Daily Journal’s 2017 “Top Intellectual Property Lawyers” list, as well as being recognized as a “Groundbreaker” in The Recorder’s 2017 Litigation Departments of the Year Awards. In addition to his J.D. and LL.M., Ballon holds the CIPP/US certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
