4 Greenberg Traurig Attorneys Present at IMN 15th Annual Winter Forum Focused on Commercial Real Estate

LAGUNA BEACH, CA – Jan. 24, 2018 – Four attorneys from global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP presented at IMN 15th Annual Winter Forum on Real Estate Opportunity & Private Fund Investing, Jan. 17-19, in Laguna Beach, CA. The conference focused on the commercial real estate (CRE) industry, its disrupters and how they impact deal making and investment opportunities.

Robert J. Ivanhoe, chair of the firm’s Global Real Estate Practice and co-chair of the REIT Practice, was a panelist on “A Year into the Trump Economy: Good, Bad or Indifferent for U.S. CRE?” The discussion reviewed domestic and global macro-economic trends; Brexit’s impact and other global influences; international capital flows into U.S. CRE; and Quantitative Easing and the impact of the Federal Reserve, as well as other related topics.

Sanford C. Presant, chair of the firm’s Real Estate Funds Practice, participated on the panel, “Fees, Promotes & Funding Structuring: How are Managers Using Structure to Effectively Attract Capital?” The panel presented on GP alternative structure/co-investment flexibility and related fees; institutional investors versus retail and offshore investors; and pooled versus deal by deal distributions, clawback, and escrows; among other topics.

Michael J. Baum spoke on the panel, “Alternative CRE Asset Classes: What is their ‘True’ Investment Value?” The session covered the return on investment of alternative CRE asset classes and the financing around such investments like self-storage, data centers, and infrastructure, among others.

Eric V. Rowen, co-chair of the Real Estate Litigation Practice and chair of the Western Region Real Estate Litigation Group, was a panelist on “Innovative Repositioning/Adaptive Re-Use Case Studies: Thinking Outside the Box.” The panel discussed recent case studies of innovators in the CRE industry, analysing the success of utilizing repositioning and adaptive re-use strategies to create value in their CRE assets.
