4 Attorneys from Greenberg Traurig’s Chicago Office Named Notable Gen X Leaders in Law

CHICAGO – June 4, 2019Paul J. Ferak, Michael T. Fishman, Mark R. Galis, and Rita M. Alliss Powers, shareholders in the Chicago office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, have been named by Crain’s Chicago Business as being among Chicago’s Notable Gen X Leaders in Law.

According to Crain’s, this inaugural list of 121 Chicago lawyers includes include some of the top practitioners in town who were born between 1964 and 1979 and serve in senior leadership roles at their firms.

Ferak is co-chair of the firm’s Financial Services Litigation Practice. He focuses his practice on financial services litigation, business litigation, and class action defense. He manages a national team of attorneys across Greenberg Traurig’s offices defending financial institutions in a variety of litigation matters. Ferak’s cases have involved financial fraud, including Ponzi schemes, mobile banking, electronic payments, credit cards, and mortgages. He also regularly defends matters alleging violations of various statutes affecting the financial services industry. Additionally, Ferak represents franchisors in high-stakes litigation and other matters.

Fishman is vice chairman of the firm’s Chicago office. He focuses his practice on real estate, real estate finance, private equity, and real estate fund formation. His clients include institutional investors, investment advisors, public and private real estate companies, REITs, and financial institutions. Fishman has worked to form domestic and cross-border real estate funds and joint ventures, and regularly represents lenders on real estate projects throughout the United States and globally. In addition, he has experience with mezzanine finance, mortgage finance, lease finance, and loan defeasance transactions.

Galis is co-chair of the firm’s Global and Chicago Intellectual Property & Technology Practices. He concentrates his practice on patent, trademark, and copyright matters, with a focus on IP portfolio management, business method/eCommerce/Internet patents, litigation, and transactional intellectual property. His experience includes overseeing all aspects of the patent and trademark portfolios of large, middle market, and start-up entities, including the preparation of patent and trademark opinions, litigation, acquisitions, and sale of intellectual property and licensing agreements.

Powers is co-managing shareholder of the firm’s Chicago office and co-chair of the Real Estate Litigation Practice. She concentrates her practice on litigation involving real estate and real estate financing, primarily with respect to shopping centers, hotels, and office buildings. She counsels clients on pre-dispute issues, and engages on their behalf in complex business litigation, trials, arbitrations, and mediations involving commercial landlord-tenant disputes and rent resets; large commercial mortgage foreclosures; conveyance and post-closing disputes among real estate buyers, sellers, brokers, and managers; construction issues; ADA claims; JV and partnership disputes, fraud claims and dissolution; and business torts.
