Greenberg Traurig’s Kara M. Bombach, Kristen W. Ng and Philip I. Person Co-Present on Export Control Attestation

WASHINGTON D.C. – March 25, 2021 – Kara M. Bombach, Kristen W. Ng and Philip I. Person, shareholders at global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will present a panel titled “Export Control Attestation – How to Navigate When Hiring an Employee Needing U.S. Immigration Sponsorship” on April 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

The panel will address what employers should consider when hiring employees, including the need to assess whether there is technology or technical data they may have access to or utilize that are subject to U.S. export control restrictions. The panelists will discuss how to identify when this could be an issue, how to minimize risk relating to employment discrimination issues, and how they affect the immigration process.

Bombach, a shareholder in the firm’s Export Controls & Economic Sanctions Practice, assists companies and organizations to lawfully export goods, technology, and services around the globe. She places emphasis on helping clients achieve practical, workable solutions to complex regulatory situations arising under anti-corruption and anti-bribery measures (U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and OECD Convention), export control laws (EAR and ITAR), anti-boycott laws, and special sanctions (embargoes) maintained by the U.S. government (OFAC and other agencies) against various countries (including Iran, Cuba and Russia), entities and individuals. In cases of foreign investment in the United States, Bombach advises on the Exon-Florio provisions relating to U.S. national security concerns. She represents companies before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), and also assists clients in mitigating foreign ownership, control, or influence (FOCI) as may be required by CFIUS or U.S. national industrial security regulations.

Ng, a shareholder in the firm’s Immigration & Compliance Practice, focuses her practice on business immigration and compliance matters, including legislative issues. She advises individuals and companies on a wide range of immigration matters, including nonimmigrant and immigrant employment-based cases, citizenship issues, and investor cases (E-2 and EB-5). Ng provides immigration counsel to clients, including HR managers, high-level executives, and employees, to ensure comprehension of each respective immigration process and procedure and to collaboratively produce the best immigration strategy and approach for each individual matter. In addition, she works on immigration reform policies and advocates for smart policies for clients.

Person, a shareholder in the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice, focuses his practice on representing employers in wage and hour, wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, trade secret misappropriation, non-competition, non-solicitation, and whistleblower claims. Person is an experienced litigator, having defended employers against single-plaintiff and class action litigation in federal courts, state courts, and arbitrations. He also serves as the Co-Host of The Performance Review podcast, a podcast that interviews company representatives on labor and employment laws and issues affecting various industries.
