BOSTON – May 7, 2021 – Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Robert A. Sherman, senior counsel in the Litigation Practice and former United States Ambassador to Portugal, David J. Dykeman, patent attorney, co-chair of the firm’s Life Sciences & Medical Technology Practice, and co-managing shareholder of the Boston office, and Barbara A. During this invitation-only event, Portugal Ventures’ portfolio companies learned best practices for doing business in the US, tips for successful collaborations with US companies, as well as strategies for working with US investors and Delaware Flip transactions. Portugal Ventures is a venture capital firm that invests in startups in the digital, engineering & industry, life sciences, and tourism sectors.
Sherman is a founding member and former co-managing shareholder of the firm’s Boston office. From 2014-2017, he served as the United States Ambassador to Portugal, having been nominated by President Barack Obama and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate. As Ambassador, he focused heavily on bilateral economic development and international security issues, such as cybersecurity, refugees, narcoterrorism, and NATO. In recognition of his work in the country, Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa decorated him with the Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator in March 2017. At Greenberg Traurig, Sherman focuses his practice on government and regulatory investigations and litigation, internal corporate investigations - with an emphasis on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) compliance – as well as consumer protection and class action defense.
Dykeman is a registered patent attorney with nearly 25 years of experience in patent and intellectual property law. His practice focuses on securing worldwide intellectual property protection and related business strategies for high tech clients, with particular experience in life sciences, medical devices, robotics, materials, and information technology. An author of over 55 articles and a speaker at over 50 conferences on intellectual property law, he is the founding co-chair of the American Bar Association (ABA)’s Medical Devices Committee. Dykeman has also been named one of the top 250 Patent and Technology Licensing Practitioners in the world by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) magazine, an "IP Star" by Managing IP magazine, a "Life Science Star" by LMG Life Sciences, one of the World's Leading IP Strategists in the IAM 300, and is listed in Chambers.
Jones maintains a diverse corporate and securities law practice across industry groups, emphasizing complex international and domestic transactions, including private and public financings, dual listings, mergers and acquisitions, strategic collaborations and joint ventures, and licensing transactions. She has assisted non-U.S. companies in accessing the U.S. markets and acquiring businesses for over 30 years. She serves as a trusted advisor to public and private company boards of directors on governance matters and complex regulatory reporting and compliance issues. Her clients include financial institutions, private equity and venture capital groups, and public and private companies in emerging technology, life sciences and biotechnology, defense and security, blockchain and digital assets, telecommunications, information technology, energy (traditional and renewable), mining, media, entertainment and sports.
