Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Steve Bassin Secures Key Restaurant Leases in Miami Design District

MIAMI May 13, 2015Steve Bassin, a shareholder in the Miami Real Estate practice of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A., recently finalized the negotiations for multiple major leases in Miami’s Design District which will bring world renowned concepts by Chef Joël Robuchon to Miami for his client, Invest Hospitality. Invest Hospitality is a boutique investment firm, specializing in the acquisition, development and growth of hospitality brands and assets across the country.

Bassin represented the tenant group in the negotiations of multiple leases for the opening of new restaurants, a bar and a, café/bakery, all under the operations of esteemed French fine-dining chef and restaurateur Joël Robuchon.  The concepts are expected to include, the fine dining restaurant L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon Miami; Le Bar,  a more casual bar and lounge area; a café and bakery concept La Boutique, and an upstairs outdoor dining area called La Terrace. The restaurants, café and bakery will be located in Paradise Plaza, on the north end of the Design District, which is part of the phase three build-out of the Design District. The Design District is currently under development by Miami Design District Associates, a partnership between Dacra, founded Miami developer Craig Robins, and L Real Estate, a global real estate development and investment fund that specializes in luxury shopping destinations.

Although the leases were signed while this particular phase of the Design District project is still in the pre-development phase, Bassin was able to negotiate sufficient protections for the tenant’s major concerns over changes to the contemplated center. At the same time, Bassin allowed the landlord the necessary flexibility for continuing the design and development of its project.

“Despite the challenges, we were able to find a balance that worked for both the landlord and the tenant in this deal during our negotiations,” Bassin said. “We’re looking forward to the opening of these prominent restaurants in Miami in the near future.”  Opening is currently slated for late 2016.

At Greenberg Traurig, Bassin represents hotel, resort, shopping center and other mixed-use real estate developers and owners. His real estate experience includes negotiation and implementation of all aspects of acquisitions, leasing and financing. He received a law degree, magna cum laude, in 2006 from the University of Miami School of Law.
