TOKYO – Oct. 10, 2016 –Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP shareholders Koichiro Ohashi and Lori S. Nugent and of counsel Jonathan A. Beckham will speak on a program entitled “Cloud Computing Services Usage by the Financial Services Industry – Business Models and Regulatory Approach.” The program, co-hosted by the Asia Cloud Computing Association (ACCA) and the Futures Industry Association Japan (FIA Japan), will take place on Nov. 1, 2016. The seminar, held in the firm’s Tokyo office, will address regulatory frameworks applicable to cloud computing in the financial services sector in different Asia-Pacific countries, and provide an overview of the U.S. regulatory and Cloud computing environment for compliance purposes.
Ohashi, co-chair of the firm’s Japan Practice and Chairman of the FIA Japan Legal & Compliance Committee, will deliver the opening remarks and speak about the Japan Data Privacy Law that is scheduled to change. Nugent, from the firm’s Dallas office, and Beckham, from the firm’s Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. offices, will speak about U.S. regulator concerns and cyber risks.
Ohashi focuses his practice on representing clients in a variety of financial matters, including cross-border and domestic banking, capital market transactions, fund and investment management matters (private equities, hedge funds and REITs), and corporate matters (especially in mergers and acquisitions, and restructuring transactions). He is experienced in the Japanese domestic market and represents both Japanese and international financial institutions on numerous types of financial transactions, such as syndicated loans, securitization transactions, derivative transactions, PIPE transactions, mezzanine finance transactions and equity finance transactions.
Nugent focuses her practice on cybersecurity and privacy issues, with specific focus on incident investigation and breach response, regulatory investigation and litigation, and assisting clients in staying ahead of cybersecurity risks. Lori regularly serves as lead breach response counsel, having defended hundreds of breached operations since 2003, including operations of all sizes in a wide variety of market sectors, including retail, health care, financial institutions, energy and utilities, public entities, hospitality, high tech, and higher education, as well as for a variety of professionals.
Beckham focuses his practice on sophisticated, cross-border commercial and corporate transactions, with a focus on technology transactions, outsourcing and general corporate matters. He negotiates transactions relating to the development of cloud infrastructure and networks, and the license of cloud services to leading financial institutions and other enterprise customers. Jonathan has negotiated and participated in numerous merger and acquisition, corporate finance and joint venture transactions involving technology and data licenses and services as a key component and driver of transaction value and risk.
