Read Joins Greenberg Traurig as Of Counsel

Susan Phillips Read, who retired last summer as an associate judge on the state Court of Appeals after 12 1/2 years on the bench, is joining Greenberg Traurig as of counsel in the firm's global litigation practice.

Read, 69, said Greenberg Traurig gives her a firm with a strong corporate law practice—"my first love," she said of commercial law—as well as the ability to keep her primary residence in the Albany area and to split time between Greenberg Traurig's Albany and Manhattan offices.

An added plus, she said in an interview Tuesday, was being able to work again with Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick, the former Court of Appeals judge who joined Greenberg Traurig as of counsel in 2013 after she was forced to step down due to the court's mandatory retirement rules.

Read and Ciparick were associate judges together on the Court of Appeals from 2003 to 2012.
