Hugo López Coll Speaks at Mexico’s Third Annual Summit on Anti-Corruption and Compliance

MEXICO CITYApril 6, 2016Hugo López Coll, a shareholder in the Mexico City office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, who is also a member of the firm’s Global Anti-Corruption Group, participated as a speaker during a recent anti-corruption and compliance summit that took place on March 29 in Mexico City.

López Coll joined an interactive panel discussion with chief compliance officers and other event participants dedicated to advancing a comprehensive anti-corruption compliance program in Mexico, and discussed minimizing third party risks. The panel focused on, “How to deal with uncooperative third parties, transparency of ownership structures, fictitious vendors and invoices, payments, lack of data and other risk factors?”

The Mexico Summit on Anti-Corruption and Compliance is organized by the American Conference Institute. This event is designed to engage a broad community of compliance professionals, and affords the opportunity to share cutting-edge risk mitigation strategies and compliance programs in light of Mexico’s new national anti-corruption system. In addition to evaluating Mexico’s structural energy and telecommunications reforms, this year’s event also examined the on-going congressional debate on anti-corruption secondary laws.

López Coll advises Mexican entities and their holding companies, both in regulated and non-regulated industries, on regulatory and compliance matters with several Mexican laws, including: (i) the Anti-Money Laundering Law; (ii) the Anti-Corruption Law for Government Procurement; (iii) the Data Protection Law; (iv) the Consumer Protection Law; (v) the Gaming Law; and (vi) other laws in the financial, telecommunications and other regulated industries.

In addition, López Coll regularly assists clients with issues arising under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the OECD Convention and the UN Convention Against Corruption.
