NYC Lateral Season Lengthens as Firms Bet on Corporate Work

Whether the high lateral movement this year will be beneficial to firms in the long run is a lingering question.

"There's been more movement, particularly throughout the year," said Richard Rosenbaum, executive chairman of Greenberg Traurig. He cited as one reason the wide range of performance between large firms.

"There's much more stratification between firms. Some firms are doing very well, some firms are doing OK, and some firms aren't doing very well." That causes some partners to move when they see opportunities, he said.

Rosenbaum also cited more movement of key rainmaking partners at law firms that historically haven't seen such exits.
