Greenberg Traurig Environmental Attorneys to Speak at 2018 CCLR National Brownfields Leadership Summit

WASHINGTON – Sept. 24, 2018 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP shareholders Steven C. Russo and Bernadette M. Rappold will be speaking at the Center for Creative Land Recycling National Brownfields Leadership Summit, Sept. 25-26, in Washington, D.C. Professionals from across the private, public, and non-profit sectors will learn about the latest redevelopment policies, programs, and funding opportunities and interact directly with leading federal agency personnel.

Russo and Rappold will participate as panelists in a roundtable discussion on new strategies for overcoming brownfields challenges. The session will showcase local projects that have leveraged EPA funding into successful revitalization, followed by updates from the EPA on implementation of the new brownfields law and other key developments.

Russo chairs the firm’s New York Environmental Practice. He focuses his practice on environmental law and litigation, environmental permitting, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) review, toxic tort litigation, environmental crimes, Brownfields redevelopment, government, energy, and the environmental aspects of land use and real estate law. He is equally experienced litigating in federal and state courts, as well as counseling his clients with regard to environmental liability risk and due diligence, permitting, Brownfields, and impact assessment and review. He also practices election and campaign finance law.

Rappold focuses her practice on federal and state regulatory issues related to energy and the environment. She has substantial litigation experience and advises clients on regulatory compliance as well as the environmental, safety, and health aspects of numerous business and real estate transactions, including water, air, and chemical hazards. Rappold offers clients perspective gained through years of service at the Environmental Protection Agency. While serving as a director of the Special Litigation and Projects Division in the Office of Civil Enforcement at the EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, Rappold led complex enforcement actions in response to violations of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and other environmental statutes.
