Greenberg Traurig’s Barbara Kaplan and Michelle Ferreira Participate in 36th Annual National Institute on Criminal Tax Fraud/Tax Controversy

NEW YORK – Dec. 9, 2019 –Shareholders Barbara T. Kaplan and Michelle Ferreira of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP will speak at the American Bar Association's (ABA) 36th Annual National Institute: Criminal Tax Fraud/Tax Controversy conference in Las Vegas, Dec. 11-13.

Kaplan, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig's Global Tax Practice and chair of the New York Tax Practice, will present during the session titled, “Civil Enforcement Priorities.” The panel will discuss enforcement priorities with IRS leadership and address how to be prepared.

Ferreira, co-managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices, will present during the plenary session titled, “Ethical Issues When Representing the Accountant in an IRS Service Investigation.” The panel will discuss ethical and strategic issues concerning when and how the accountant should be represented and address the role of the accountant in a sensitive tax examination.

Kaplan, named “Lawyer of the Year,” Litigation and Controversy – Tax, New York City, 2020 by Best Lawyers in America and one of the top 50 women lawyers in New York City by Super Lawyers magazine, focuses her tax litigation practice on domestic and foreign corporations, partnerships, and individuals in federal, state, and local tax examinations, controversies, and litigation, including administrative and grand jury criminal tax investigations.

Ferreira has been listed in Chambers USA Guide, The Best Lawyers in America, The Legal 500 United States and Super Lawyers for her tax litigation achievements. She counsels and tries cases for individuals, partnerships, estates, and corporations in tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and state and local tax agencies, including the California Franchise Tax Board, the State Board of Equalization, the Employment Development Department and county assessment appeals board.
