Greenberg Traurig Represents Community Servings in $25 Million Expansion Project

Community Servings Dedicates New Lobby to Greenberg Traurig

BOSTON – Jan. 16, 2020 Edward S. Hershfield, a Boston shareholder in the Real Estate Practice of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, provided pro bono legal representation to Community Servings for the completion of a $25 million kitchen expansion and three-story addition project at its longtime home in Jamaica Plain. Community Servings is a nonprofit provider of medically tailored meals and nutrition services to individuals and families living with critical and chronic illnesses. Hershfield provided contract negotiations, land use agreements, and project financing, with David A. Hackett, an associate in law firm’s Corporate Practice in Boston, assisting.

Community Servings and Greenberg Traurig celebrated the opening of the expanded facility on Dec. 17, 2019, with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony. Attendees included Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, state Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders; Boston Mayor Martin Walsh; and Community Servings CEO David Waters, among other distinguished guests. Community Servings dedicated a lobby at the new campus to Greenberg Traurig.

Hershfield has served as pro bono real estate legal counsel to Community Servings for more than ten years and has represented the organization throughout its ownership of the Jamaica Plain campus, including the acquisition of much of the campus and multiple financings of the property.

In a press release issued by Community Servings, Waters said, “For 30 years, we’ve been focused on bringing nutritious, scratch-made, medically tailored meals to our neighbors in need. With the opening of our new Food Campus, we plan to double and eventually triple the amount of meals we prepare and deliver over the next ten years. Our goal is to ensure that people across the Commonwealth who are living with critical and chronic illnesses receive the nutritious meals they need to maintain and improve their health.”
