James T. Smith is a member of the Tax Practice in Greenberg Traurig’s San Francisco office. Mr. Smith focuses on state and federal tax controversies and litigation. He also assists clients with compliance counseling for federal and state tax matters.

During law school, Mr. Smith served as an honors intern clerk for the Honorable Mitchell S. Goldberg at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He was also a volunteer law clerk in the Northern Civil Trial Section of the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division. Mr. Smith earned the Joseph W. Marshall scholarship for outstanding aptitude in the study of taxation.
