MIAMI (July 17, 2014) – Seven attorneys from the Florida offices of international law firm Greenberg Traurig will serve as instructors for the Florida Chamber of Commerce’s 28th annual “Environmental Permitting Summer School.” The program will take place July 22-25 at the Marco Island Marriott Resort & Golf Club, 400 S. Collier Boulevard, Marco Island, Fla., 34145.
The four-day continuing education program, produced in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, is designed for elected officials, architects, engineers, property appraisers, builders, and other professionals in real estate, environmental consulting, government and law. The program’s courses will cover a variety of topics including water policy, regulatory updates, environmental permitting, enforcement trends, planning transportation corridors, growth management, and environmental due diligence.
Greenberg Traurig Florida attorneys participating include:
- Kerri L. Barsh, Shareholder in the firm’s Miami office and Co-Chair of the firm’s National Environmental Practice, will give an overview of some top current responses to climate change and sea level rise. At Greenberg Traurig, Barsh focuses her practice on representing public and private clients on an array of environmental regulatory, permitting and litigation matters.
- Chris Bell, Shareholder in the Environmental Practice of the firm’s Houston office, will discuss land development in environmentally sensitive areas and strategies for avoiding related litigation. At Greenberg Traurig, Bell focuses his practice on administrative, criminal and civil litigation and complains counseling under all of the major environmental statutes.
- Michael G. Cooke, Of Counsel in the Environmental Practice at the firm’s Tampa office, will provide an update on Florida’s statewide renewable energy projects. At Greenberg Traurig, Cooke concentrates his practice in administrative law, including environmental, utility, and land use law.
- Julie P. Kendig-Schrader, Shareholder in the Environmental Practice of the firm’s Orlando office, will discuss current trends in federal environmental regulation and enforcement. At Greenberg Traurig, Kendig-Schrader represents both the public and private sector in land use and environmental matters and administrative litigation.
- Maribel N. Nicholson-Choice, Shareholder in the Environmental Practice of the firm’s Tallahassee office, will review the progress of the Florida Brownfields Program since it was enacted 15 years ago. At Greenberg Traurig, Nicholson-Choice focuses her practice on various aspects of environmental, real estate, and financial institution representations, and governmental affairs.
- Christopher Torres, Administrative Shareholder of the firm’s Tampa office and a Shareholder in the office’s Litigation Practice will present on innovatioins in planning, zoning and development. At Greenberg Traurig, Torres focuses his practice on toxic tort defense, environmental litigation, land use litigation, complex commercial litigation, and white-collar litigation.
- David B. Weinstein, Managing Shareholder of the firm’s Tampa office and Chair of the Environmental & Toxic Torts Litigation Practice, will share insights on how to defend a permit against legal assaults. At Greenberg Traurig, Weinstein has an active civil and criminal litigation practice, with an emphasis on business, environmental, health care and other complex matters.
