Beacon Council heads to Spain to tout Miami-Dade

The Miami-Dade Beacon Council will host this month its 16th economic development mission to Spain with the goal of strengthening business ties with the country.

The economic development agency is partnering with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) and Enterprise Florida to send its top representatives on the trip from Feb. 21 to March 1.

"Spain is an incredibly important partner," said Jaret Davis, Greenberg Traurig Miami co-managing shareholder and board chair of the Beacon Council. "We look forward to the opportunity to meet with more than 100 Spanish companies and highlight Miami-Dade's world-class infrastructure, multicultural and multiethnic workforce and strategic geographic location."

Across Florida, there are more than 400 Spanish companies and most of them are doing business in the tri-county area, Davis told the Business Journal. Trade figures between the Miami Customs District and Spain suggest that number could grow, with $926 million flowing between the regions in 2015 — a 25 percent increase from 2014.

Davis and the Beacon Council's interim CEO Sheldon Anderson will lead the mission on meetings in Madrid and Barcelona with companies that have shown interest in bringing jobs to South Florida.
