Greenberg Traurig’s James DeCarlo to Speak on “Functional Claiming for Software Patents” in Live Webcast

NEW YORK – Feb. 23, 2017 – James J. DeCarlo, a shareholder in the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice at global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will speak during Strafford’s live webcast titled, “Functional Claiming for Software Patents: Leveraging Recent Court Treatment,” from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. EST February 23, 2017.

This CLE webinar will provide guidance to IP counsel on functional claiming in software patents and in USPTO prosecution. The panel will examine recent court treatment and how to navigate the issue of functionality given the uncertainties in the prosecution and litigation contexts.

A registered patent attorney and electrical engineer, DeCarlo is actively involved in virtually all aspects of intellectual property counseling. DeCarlo’s experience includes litigating patent matters in District Courts around the country; handling matters before the PTAB; counseling clients on the strategic use and management of intellectual property assets; and drafting infringement, validity, and freedom to operate opinions. He also counsels clients on the drafting and negotiating of complex technology agreements and directs the prosecution of patent applications in areas such as electronic commerce, cloud computing, virtual and augmented reality, streaming media, internet search engines, search advertising, client/server systems, mobile and land based telecommunications, and computer software and hardware.
