Greenberg Traurig Attorneys Speaking at Hotel Opportunities Latin America Investment Conference

MIAMI – April 7, 2017 – Real estate and hospitality attorneys Richard F. Davis and Fernando Orrantia, from global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP will speak on two different panels at the Hotel Opportunities Latin America (HOLA) Investment Conference, scheduled for April 25th and 26th, at the JW Marriot Marquis in Miami.

According to organizers, the HOLA conference is designed to provide an annual meeting place for hotel executives, investors, lenders, developers, and the professional advisory community who are interested in the Latin America hotel market. HOLA immediately precedes the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS), at the same hotel on April 26-28, 2017.

Davis’ session on Tuesday, April 25th, “Mixed Used Developments – Making 1 + 1 = 3,” will focus on determining product mix. Session participants will also look at: residential components, retail, convention centers, master-planned resort communities, timeshare/fractional, condo hotels, etc. They will discuss what amenities could generate the most revenue? Do different components attract alternative investment sources? What customizations to the various product components are often needed for the client and the market? What has worked and what has not in recent Mixed-Use developments?

Orrantia will be moderating “Capital For Development – Sources, Structures, and What Works Best?,” also on April 25th. The session will focus on of what types of capital sources, both debt and equity are available for hotel development? How are the various sources behaving: REITs, CKDs, public debt, private equity, etc.? Who is lending, where, and under what terms? Who is investing, where and under what terms? What innovative financial structures are available and may be appropriate for developers? Consider the advantages and disadvantages of fideicomisos, REITs, FIBRAs, EB-5, CBI, and condo-hotels. What seems to work best, when, and why? What are some of the possible upsides and downsides of the various financing options?

Davis has more than 30 years of experience in the global recreational and resort real estate industry and is co-chair of the firm’s Hospitality Group. He has counseled owners, developers, investors, operators, lenders, and advisors in connection with major global hospitality industry projects. He is a Trustee of the American Resort Development Association, a member of the Urban Land Institute and its Recreational Product Council, the U.S.- Mexico Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Mexican Tourism Developers, and the Caribbean Hotel Association. He has been a member of industry task forces in Florida, California, and other U.S. jurisdictions as well as with respect to Mexico, the Caribbean, and other foreign locations.

Fernando Orrantia Dworak focuses his practice in the real estate, commercial and corporate law aspects of clients participating in diverse industries, including port services, petrochemical, and hospitality services, advising clients in complex international joint venture operations, mergers, acquisition and divestitures of operations and assets, as well as domestic and cross border financing related to his client’s activities.
