Senior Chairman Matt Gorson Appointed to the Friends of the Underline Board of Trustees

MIAMI – April 6, 2018 Greenberg Traurig, P.A. Senior Chairman Matthew B. Gorson was appointed to The Friends of the Underline (FUL) Board of Trustees. FUL is a 501C3 non-profit organization advocating to transform the underutilized land below Miami’s Metrorail into a 10-mile linear park, trail and canvas for artistic expression.

The Underline’s Board of Trustees will support the board of directors and staff by leveraging their community and business expertise to provide guidance, oversight and recommendations relating to operations, fundraising, government relations and other issues.

“I look forward to working with the other trustees to help make this transformational project a reality for our community and Miami’s future,” Gorson said. “At Greenberg Traurig, we are honored to continue our role in Miami’s transformation. We have always been committed to supporting efforts like the Underline that facilitate transportation, offer better connectivity for our residents and make our city a better place to live. ”

Based in Greenberg Traurig’s Miami office Gorson oversees the day-to-day operations of the firm’s Southeast and California offices and previously served as the firm’s President. He joined Greenberg Traurig in 1973 as the firm’s 14th lawyer, and became one of the most prolific and in-demand real estate attorneys in South Florida. His work over the last two decades has played a key role in revitalizing the urban landscape and changing the skyline of Downtown Miami, Brickell Avenue, Miami Beach and Sunny Isles. As the former chair of the firm's national Real Estate Practice, Gorson was instrumental in developing the firm's reputation as a real estate powerhouse.

Gorson focuses his community involvement on areas in which he can make a difference, including reaching the area’s at-risk youth and pointing them toward a path to success. He volunteers his time as chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami and as founder and chairman of the Downtown Miami Charter School, an inner-city, tuition-free public charter school that Gorson helped develop. Gorson is a former board member and executive committee member of United Way of Miami-Dade and a former board member of the New World Symphony, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, the City of Miami Downtown Development Authority, Mt. Sinai Hospital and the 11th Judicial Circuit Historical Society. He is a board emeritus member of Tulane University and founder of both Mt. Sinai Hospital and Baptist Hospital.
