Greenberg Traurig's Carolyn McNiven Speaks at the 9th Global Forum on Anti-Corruption Compliance in High Risk Markets

SAN FRANCISCO – July 23, 2018 Carolyn McNiven of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP will speak at the Ninth Global Forum on Anti-Corruption Compliance in High Risk Markets, July 25-26, in Washington, D.C.

According to its website, American Conference Institute’s two-day forum will focus on anti-corruption challenges, offering strategies to detect, investigate, and mitigate bribery and enforcement risks. Speakers will include legal, government, and industry leaders.

On July 26, McNiven will participate as a panelist in a session titled, “Addressing and Solving Sophisticated Compliance Issues for Companies Doing Business in India: The Travel Act and Beyond.” Panelists will discuss risk reduction strategies in structuring a business in India, Travel Act exposure risk, corporate fraud and misconduct, due diligence issues, fair market value in real estate transactions, and counseling a company’s C-Suite regarding criminal exposure for civil violations.

McNiven, a shareholder in the firm’s San Francisco office, focuses on government enforcement issues, whether the matter is criminal, civil, or both. She has advised multiple public companies under U.S. Department of Justice and SEC investigation on global anti-bribery and corruption compliance, and spent over a year imbedded in India developing an anti-corruption compliance program for a Fortune 50 company. She has advised numerous U.S. companies on how to navigate the challenging enforcement environment in India successfully, and has written and spoken widely on the government’s use of the Travel Act to prosecute commercial kickbacks.

Her understanding of government decision-making is grounded in her many years of experience as a federal criminal prosecutor in Chicago, where she handled numerous high-profile public corruption and corporate fraud matters, including FCPA investigations. An experienced trial and appellate attorney, McNiven is particularly skilled at negotiating with enforcement authorities before charging decisions are made to optimize outcomes for her clients. She also counsels companies faced with sensitive legal and practical problems relating to suspected criminal activities by employees, including cybercrime, and anti-corruption matters.
