DENVER – August 7, 2018 – Troy A. Eid, a shareholder in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Denver office, has been elected president of the Navajo Nation Bar Association, Inc. (NNBA). Eid will serve a two-year term beginning on August 31. The former United States Attorney for the District of Colorado, Eid co-chairs Greenberg Traurig’s American Indian Law Practice and is a member of its White Collar Defense & Special Investigations, Energy & Natural Resources, and Environmental Practices.
Founded in 1975 and based in St. Michaels, Arizona, the NNBA is the largest legal services organization in the United States serving a Native American nation with more than 500 members. The Navajo Nation spans parts of three states and is larger than West Virginia. The NNBA was established to promote the practice of law in the Navajo Nation; to recommend candidates for admission to practice law before the Navajo Courts; and to establish and ensure the quality of training programs for practitioners. The NNBA also advises on the selection of judges in the Navajo Courts, counsels the Courts on rule changes and other measures, and recommends legislation to enhance the Navajo Court system.
Eid focuses his litigation, mediation, and transactional practice on government enforcement, investigations and compliance, environmental law, energy and natural resource development, and Federal Indian law and Native American and Alaska Native tribal law. He is a trusted advocate and mediator in the Rocky Mountain West and in federal, state, and tribal trial and appellate courtrooms across the country.
Deeply involved in the American Indian community, Eid serves on the Board of Trustees for the Center of the American West and is an elected member of the Navajo Nation Commission on Judicial Conduct. He is also a member of the United States Sentencing Commission, Tribal Issues Advisory Committee, and serves on the Board of Directors of NavajoYES, a fitness non-profit that sponsors the Navajo Parks Race Series.
