MEXICO CITY – Jan. 10, 2019 –Former Undersecretary of Communications for the Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transportation (MCT) Edgar Olvera Jiménez has joined global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Mexico City office as a shareholder in the Corporate and Technology, Media & Telecommunications practices.

Olvera Jiménez focuses his practice on telecommunications law. In his previous role as Undersecretary of Communications for the MCT, Olvera Jiménez participated in the design and implementation of Mexico’s recent telecommunications reforms. He spearheaded the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) negotiations in this fast-evolving sector, and fostered infrastructure investments by promoting infrastructure projects from the Federal Government in Mexico.
Having served as coordinator of technical and regulatory projects for the MCT, Olvera Jiménez has participated in landmark transactions, including the acquisition of the Mexican Satellite System (MEXSAT) and the bidding of the dark fiber of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). Additionally, he was involved in the largest public-private partnership (PPP) project in Mexican history known as “Red Compartida,” a wholesale 4G shared network in Mexico, where Greenberg Traurig served as counsel to Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the financial advisor to the MCT. Olvera Jiménez also has held several positions within Mexico’s Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO).
