Kelly Bunting to Moderate Panel on Worker Misclassification at ABA International Labor and Employment Law Meeting

PHILADELPHIA – May 4, 2021Kelly Dobbs Bunting, a shareholder in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Philadelphia office, will moderate a panel at the American Bar Association (ABA) International Labor and Employment Law Committee’s (Virtual) Midyear Meeting. Bunting, who is co-chair of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice's Workplace Compliance & Counseling group, will moderate the panel “Contractor Compliance and Misclassification: Pitfalls and Potential Risks when Using Freelancers and Agencies” May 6 from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. ET.

The midyear meeting will address topics such as labor rights in global supply chains, trade agreements, trade barriers, and trade wars, global diversity programs, freedom of association and the right to organize, and the future of work post-COVID-19, according to the ABA’s employment and labor committee. Bunting’s panel will address global developments in law and litigation regarding worker classification for U.S.-based companies doing business in Europe and the U.S., including their effect on gig economy workers, , classification, and the impact of digitalization of the workplace. The panel will examine recent legislative developments in the United States, particularly in California and New York, and what they mean for multinational employers in the U.S.

“I look forward to discussing current issues in the labor and employment field with my peers attending this important event for the legal community,” Bunting said. “Alongside longstanding labor and employment issues, we are facing unprecedented complications due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and hopefully this meeting will suggest widespread best practices going forward.”

Bunting litigates federal and state class and collective actions alleging wage and hour violations, misclassification, overtime, minimum wage and off-the-clock work. She also defends employers around the country in single plaintiff litigation involving gender, age, disability, race, national origin, religious and pregnancy discrimination, harassment and retaliation; whistleblower claims; theft of trade secrets; breach of duty; breach of employment agreements; and restrictive covenants. Bunting advises multinational clients on workplace policies, best practices, internal investigations, cross-border issues and employment-related FCPA/anti-corruption law compliance. She is co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Workplace Compliance and Counseling group and has spoken on U.S. and international labor and employment topics around the world.
