Greenberg Traurig’s Global Privacy Chair Gretchen Ramos Selected as 2020 Top Cyber Lawyer by the Daily Journal

SAN FRANCISCO– Nov. 11, 2020 – Gretchen A. Ramos, global co-chair of Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice, has been named one of  California’s Top Cyber Lawyers for 2020 by the Daily Journal. The award honors California attorneys on the cutting-edge of cybersecurity, privacy, and data protection. This is Ramos’ second consecutive year appearing on the list; she was also named last year as one of the "Top Women Lawyers" in California by the publication.

“Her work involves novel issues that regulators are only beginning to address,” wrote the Daily Journal, noting her leading-edge work related to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the European Unions recent decision known as Schrems II, and other privacy legislation pending in the United States and internationally.

Ramos, a member of Greenberg Traurig’s San Francisco office, focuses her practice on privacy, cybersecurity, and information management. She and her team of experienced data protection attorneys work closely with clients to ensure advice and potential solutions are based on an in-depth understanding of a client’s operations, business objectives, technology, current and future data needs, and risk tolerance.

Considered the go-to privacy lawyer in the Bay area and beyond, Ramos has  extensive experience working with a variety of tech companies on complex “grey-area” issues. She takes a  practical approach to data protection issues, prioritizing  a company's business objectives, and has a deep understanding of litigation risks given her long history as a complex commercial litigator.

Ramos’ clients come from diverse industries, including technology (SaaS), health care and life sciences, financial institutions, consumer products, manufacturing, academic institutions, and non-profits. She provides clients with practical business advice on compliance with state and federal U.S. laws, including the CCPA, CPRA, HIPAA,  CMIA, GLBA, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, and global privacy laws, such as the GDPR, LGPD and other new laws in relation to their external and internal privacy and security procedures, product and app development, and advertising practices.

She also regularly drafts and negotiates contracts involving the security, use, licensing and sharing of personal information and cross-border transfers of such information, assists clients in assessing privacy risks in corporate transactions, and provides guidance on and conducts privacy and security assessments. Ramos also has extensive experience guiding companies through data breaches and ransomware attacks, and helps organizations become more prepared for their next security incident.
