James’ practice focuses on complex commercial litigation for a wide range of clients with diverse legal needs. He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts throughout the country in contract disputes, business torts, and other complex commercial litigations. James also has experience with class actions and multi-district litigations and has represented clients at both the trial and appellate levels.

James maintains an active pro bono practice and currently serves as appellate counsel for a death row inmate seeking post-conviction relief.

  • Representing national hospitality management/development company in high-stakes trademark case.
  • Representing national hospitality management/development company in case involving claims of defamation and false advertising.
  • Representing global HVAC and refrigeration company in complex commercial lease dispute.
  • Obtained full dismissal of lawsuit on behalf of global HVAC and refrigeration company in case involving claims of warranty, product liability, negligence and fraud and over $20M in alleged damages.

  • Representing owner/purchaser in construction dispute with contractor over wastewater treatment system project.
  • Obtained summary judgment on behalf of global technology company in breach of contract case brought by integrated partner.Representing government client in intergovernmental water rate dispute.
  • Attained unanimous jury verdict as co-lead trial counsel in case involving breach of commercial lease.
  • Represented prominent transportation authority in complex construction litigation and helped secure resolution of all claims.
  • Defended school district against tort claims, including negligent hiring, negligent retention and punitive damages and achieved dismissal of all claims with prejudice.
  • Defended bank client in numerous garnishment proceedings.
  • Represented major medical device manufacturer in 5-week bellwether trial against claims of design defect, failure to warn, negligence, common law fraud, negligent misrepresentation, loss of consortium and punitive damages.
  • Represented major medical device manufacturer in a complex and diverse multi-district litigation involving women’s pelvic health products, including on intricate issues of materials science, medical device design, medical causation and FDA/regulatory issues.
  • Represented several major medical device manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies in various stages of mass tort and multi-district litigations regarding a variety of products, including hernia mesh, hormone replacement therapy, chemotherapy, and proton-pump inhibitors.
  • Assisted with mediating and arbitrating high-value cases and helped secure numerous favorable settlements for clients.
