Greenberg Traurig’s Scott J. Bornstein to Speak on IPO IP Chat Channel’s Webinar on Patent Eligibility Following Alice v. CLS

NEW YORK (July 14, 2014) – Scott J. Bornstein, a shareholder in the New York office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will serve as a panelist on the Intellectual Property Owners (IPO) Association’s IP Chat Channel’s webinar on Patent Eligibility After Alice v. CLS. The webinar will take place Tuesday, July 15, 2014.

The association’s weekly one-hour webinars addressing current topics in intellectual property are produced in cooperation with host Pamela Sherrid, former editor of IP Law & Business magazine. The panelists will discuss how much Alice will affect patent applications at the USPTO, covered business method post-grant proceedings at the PTAB, and invalidity arguments in district court. They will also discuss what kinds of applications and patents are most vulnerable, what the USPTO, district courts, and the Federal Circuit may do with the vague tests articulated by Alice regarding “abstract ideas” and “inventive concept," and what patent owners and applicants who are at risk can do to shore up their IP protection.

As Chair of Greenberg Traurig’s New York Intellectual Property & Technology Practice and Co-Chair of the firm’s Global Patent Litigation Group, Bornstein has extensive patent trial experience and has served as lead counsel in more than 100 patent litigations. He has broad experience in patent, trademark and copyright litigation, licensing, and general IP counseling for a wide variety of national and international clients. Bornstein also served as lead counsel on behalf of defendant Retail Decisions in the landmark case invalidating all asserted claims of plaintiff CyberSource under Section 101 of the Patent Laws in both the Northern District of California and before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
