The Fund for Modern Courts Receives DoGooder’s ImpactX Award for Film Sponsored by Greenberg Traurig

NEW YORK – March 13, 2015 – Greenberg Traurig, LLP recently financed a video by The Fund for Modern Courts highlighting why more family court judges are critically needed in New York State. The video was chosen as one of the winners of the DoGooder National Video Awards and as the sole recipient of the ImpactX Award, which recognizes the nonprofit video with the most real-world advocacy impact in the past year.

The ImpactX Award is based on the video itself as well as a short essay explaining how the video drove impact and changed the status quo for the issue it addressed. The impact shown in Modern Courts’ video was dramatic. In June 2014, a bill passed – after 23 years without new judges – providing for 25 new Family Court judgeships in NYS and $20 million in the budget. The new judgeships will go a long way to alleviate the backlog and enable the justice system to decide child welfare, juvenile justice, domestic violence, and support and custody cases more timely.

“Greenberg Traurig has always had a steadfast commitment to public service, and that is why we are proud to support The Fund for Modern Courts,” said Bill Silverman, head of the firm’s pro bono program and board member of The Fund for Modern Courts. “Out of many entries, Modern Courts’ video was selected because it not only raised awareness around an issue, but also inspired action.”

The awards are sponsored by See3 Communications, YouTube, and the Nonprofit Technology Network.
