Federal Supreme Court of Ethiopia Acknowledges Greenberg Traurig Attorneys For Pro Bono Work

LAS VEGAS – Oct. 27, 2016 – Three attorneys in the Las Vegas and Washington, D.C. offices of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP were acknowledged by the Federal Supreme Court of Ethiopia for providing pro bono work to the Child Justice Project Office (“CJPO”).

The Greenberg Traurig team successfully petitioned a Court in Las Vegas, Nevada to confirm a paternity order issued in Ethiopia and obtained a child support order for their client. Greenberg Traurig’s client resides in Ethiopia and for over 14 years has been raising her daughter without any support from the child’s father who moved to and worked in the United States. It is expected that the groundwork of the Greenberg Traurig team will pave the way for other Ethiopian paternity orders to be enforced in the United States.

The participating attorneys of Greenberg Traurig included: Kim Morris Agee and Kara B. Hendricks. Attorney Tonya Henderson also participated in this case. Additionally, Thomas R. Snider was instrumental in bringing the case to Greenberg Traurig and acted as a liaison with the Child Justice Project Office in Ethiopia.

“We are thrilled with the positive outcome of this case and look forward to continued work for the Child Justice Project Office” stated Hendricks, litigation shareholder in the Las Vegas office.

The team received a letter of appreciation from the Federal Supreme Court of Ethiopia, which stated, “thanks to the selfless and quality legal service your firm provided, we are now more convinced than before that the result of this case will indeed have a telling impact in dissuading others from trying to avoid their paternity obligations.”
