Greenberg Traurig’s Barry J. Schindler to Speak on the Changing Patent Scene in the USA at the AIPPI Israel Conference

NEW JERSEY – March 16, 2016 – Barry J. Schindler, co-chair of the Global Patent Prosecution Group and Intellectual Property & Technology shareholder at global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will be presenting during the AIPPI Israel Conference in Tel Aviv. Schindler will be speaking on a panel titled, “The Changing Patent Scene in the USA” from 4:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. March 22, 2016, where he will discuss the effects of the change from first-to-invent to first-inventor-to-file, including filing strategies and monetization.

According to its website, the conference brings together professionals in the industry and business fields, as well as representatives from academia and governmental agencies. It creates a dynamic professional and educational forum, a platform for public debate as well as an opportunity for professional networking for the Israeli business and IP communities.

Specifically, Schindler’s panel discussion will focus, according to conference material, on “how the U.S. patent scene has changed dramatically over recent years, following the coming into force of the America Invents Act (AIA) as well as in view of some recent Supreme Court decisions relating to questions of patent-eligibility under §101. Patentees as well as patent challengers face a host of new issues including the applicability of inter partes post grant procedures (PGR, IPR and CBM procedures), increased difficulties in obtaining patents in the field of computer-related inventions as well as in the field of biological inventions, and others.”

Schindler has more than 25 years of legal experience in all aspects of pharmaceutical and chemical patent prosecution—representing numerous major pharmaceutical and chemical companies regarding patents relating to small molecules and synthetic compounds. He also has wide-ranging patent experience in such areas as medical devices, business method processes, food products/supplements, telemedicine, Internet-based systems, plastics, and has provided counsel to some of the world's most innovative corporations in such areas. Schindler has helped companies of all sizes build and manage significant patent portfolios, develop in-house procedures, and formulate intellectual property strategies.
