Greenberg Traurig Hosts Atlanta-Israel FinTech Innovation Conference

ATLANTA – May 22, 2017 – The Atlanta office of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP will host the second annual Atlanta-Israel FinTech Innovation Conference, which connects leading Israeli companies in the financial technology sector with Georgia-based corporate partners. The conference, held May 22 – 23, and will provide networking and new business opportunities for participants.

Building on the success of last year’s conference, approximately 40 U.S. and Israeli companies confirmed their attendance. Participants reflect many financial and technology sectors including banking, consumer credit reporting, payment processing, personal financial planning, data and risk analytics, and fraud prevention.

The firm’s involvement is being led by David Schulman, Shareholder in the Emerging Technology Practice in the Atlanta office. Schulman has more than 20 years of experience representing both Israeli companies in the United States, as well as American corporations with respect to their inbound activities in Israel. He is a native speaker of Hebrew and frequent visitor to Israel. Schulman has extensive experience structuring and negotiating complex FinTech and eCommerce transactions, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings, strategic alliances, and joint ventures.

Carl A. Fornaris, co-chair of the Financial Regulatory and Compliance Practice in the Miami office will speak on the panel “The Fintech Regulatory Landscape” on May 23. With 23 years of legal experience, Fornaris advises banks and their holding companies, investment advisers, securities broker dealers, gaming firms, money services businesses, and other financial institutions on all aspects of their business, including licensing, capital-raising transactions, acquisitions and divestitures, USA PATRIOT Act/BSA/AML compliance and OFAC sanctions programs (including permissible financial activities in Cuba), critical examination reports and enforcement proceedings, Dodd-Frank Act compliance (including Volcker Rule implementation), new products, and FATCA.

“Israel is a leader in the technology industry, particularly in FinTech,” Schulman said. “Meanwhile, Georgia is the home to many significant companies in the financial sector, including some of the largest payment processing firms, as well as nearly 100 FinTech companies, so an event of this type is both valuable and logical. The success of our inaugural year surpassed expectations, and we’ve built on that momentum in 2017 – we expect an excellent conference.”

Greenberg Traurig is the only major international law firm with a multidisciplinary, registered office in Tel-Aviv, Israel, and serves as a gateway for Israeli businesses and entrepreneurs seeking opportunities around the world. Greenberg Traurig’s Tel Aviv office also represents non-Israeli companies seeking opportunities within Israel.

Greenberg Traurig advises clients with respect to technology transactions, banking and regulatory issues, intellectual property and privacy matters, corporate and securities matters, financings, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets issues, as well as other general legal matters.
