Greenberg Traurig Hosts International Arbitration Seminar in Mexico City

MEXICO CITY – Oct. 4, 2018 – The Mexico City office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP will host an international arbitration seminar Oct. 9 at the Hyatt Regency in Mexico City’s Polanco District.

Attorneys from the firm’s Mexico City, Miami, and Washington, D.C. offices will participate in interactive panel discussions on how companies can benefit from incorporating a good disputes clause in international transactions. Event speakers will also discuss regional enforcement issues as well as the impact of the new U.S., Mexico, Canada Agreement, and Mexico’s ratification of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) Convention on investor-state arbitration.

Luz María de la Mora, who has been appointed Mexico’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade for the incoming presidential administration, will participate in the discussion, along with Víctor Manuel Frías Garcés and Fernando Orrantia Dworak, shareholders from the firm’s Mexico City office. Ricardo A. Gonzalez, a shareholder in the Miami office, will join the conversation with Thomas G. Allen and Tomás Leonard, from the Washington, D.C. office.

Frías focuses his practice on business and competition law, including mergers and acquisitions. He has represented clients in international arbitrations, including multinational players in the energy and automotive sectors.

Orrantia focuses his practice on real estate and corporate law aspects of clients participating in diverse industries, including port services, petrochemical, and hospitality services. He advises on complex international joint ventures, financings, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures of operations and assets.

Gonzalez is a business litigator, who focuses his practice on complex commercial disputes in federal and state courts and before domestic and international arbitration tribunals. He has a broad range of experience representing clients in the financial services industry.

Allen is a litigator, focusing his practice on international arbitration and cross-border disputes. He represents clients in a variety of industries with an emphasis on energy, manufacturing, construction, and aviation. Thomas has wide-ranging experience in high-value international and U.S. arbitrations.

Leonard focuses his practice on international arbitration and litigation, covering primarily foreign direct investment in Latin American countries. He represents both private investors and sovereign states in international arbitration proceedings before various international fora.
