Greenberg Traurig Attorneys to Participate in the ABA 35th National Institute on Criminal Tax Fraud and National Institute on Tax Controversy

LAS VEGAS – Dec. 13, 2018 — Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP Tax Practice shareholders Barbara T. Kaplan and G. Michelle Ferreira will participate in the American Bar Association’s (ABA) 35th Annual National Institute on Criminal Tax Fraud, the yearly gathering of the criminal tax defense bar combined with the Eighth Annual National Institute on Tax Controversy. The Dec. 13-15 program brings together high-level government representatives, judges, corporate counsel, and private practitioners engaged in all aspects of tax controversy, tax litigation, and criminal tax prosecutions and defense.

Kaplan and Ferreira will participate in a panel discussion on civil enforcement priorities. The speakers will address top civil enforcement priorities and challenges – from LB&I campaigns to SBSE initiatives and Department of Justice priorities.

Kaplan is co-chair of the Global Tax Practice and has been named one of the top 50 women lawyers in New York City by Super Lawyers magazine. She focuses her tax litigation practice on domestic and foreign corporations, partnerships, and individuals in federal, state, and local tax examinations, controversies, and litigation, including administrative and grand jury criminal tax investigations.

Ferreira is managing shareholder of the firm’s San Francisco office and co-managing shareholder of the Silicon Valley office. She counsels individuals, partnerships, estates, and corporations in tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and state and local tax agencies, including the California Franchise Tax Board, the State Board of Equalization, the Employment Development Department, and county assessment appeals boards.
