Greenberg Traurig Shareholders Speak at 2019 Privacy + Security Forum

NEW YORK – Oct. 14, 2019Greenberg Traurig, LLP shareholders Ian C. Ballon, Kate Black, and Gretchen A. Ramos will speak at the 2019 Privacy + Security Forum Oct. 14 – 16 at the George Washington University Marvin Center in Washington, D.C.

The annual forum brings together thought leaders from across the privacy and security sector to discuss the latest trends and issues facing those industries. Speakers include privacy and security professionals, attorneys, academics, policymakers, and more.

Ballon, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig's global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice based in the firm's Silicon Valley and Los Angeles offices, will present during the session titled, "The Coming Flood of CCPA Class Litigation: What You Can Do to Mitigate Your Risk," Oct. 15 at 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The panel will discuss measures companies should take to reduce their risk under the California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA) and how future CCPA cases will be litigated.

Ballon, a litigator, has served as lead counsel in defending numerous data privacy and cybersecurity putative class action suits, in addition to litigating cutting edge AI, database, and intellectual property cases. He is also the author of West’s 5-volume legal treatise, E-Commerce & Internet Law 2d (www.IanBallon.net), which includes exhaustive analysis of data privacy, security and AI case law, statutes and trends, among other things.

Black, a member of the firm's Data Privacy & Cybersecurity and Emerging Technology practices in San Francisco will speak on a panel titled, "Data Sharing for Research: Advancing Science While Protecting Privacy," Oct. 16 at 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. The session will discuss barriers companies face to sharing data for academic research and cover practical approaches for addressing and overcoming these barriers.

Black regularly advises technology, health, and life sciences companies on data protection and use strategy to advance innovative and emerging models of healthcare research and delivery.

Ramos, co-chair of the Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice and member of the firm's San Francisco office, will participate in a panel titled, "Third Parties and the CCPA: Data Sharing and Selling," Oct. 16 at 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. The panel discussion will explore how the CCPA compliance issues that arise when sharing and selling consumer information, and possible solutions.

Ramos works closely with technology companies to manage data and leverage its value in a way to meet compliance obligations, deliver value to the company, and instill consumer trust.
