NEW YORK – April 2, 2021 – City & State has named former Court of Appeals Judge Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s National Appellate Practice Group, and former New York City official Ed Wallace, co-chair of the firm’s New York City office to the City & State 2021 Law Power 100 list.
City & State’s Law Power 100 list includes award-winning litigators and partners at top white-collar firms and is based on who’s having an impact in New York’s public policy and government spheres. The list features prominent public officials, top legal advisers, and powerful prosecutors at the local, state, and federal level.
Wallace was recently listed on the New York City Power 100 list and in 2020, he was recognized as a City & State Lifetime Achievement Award winner, among numerous other recognitions. In 1981, Wallace became the then youngest City Council member in New York City history representing the Borough of Manhattan. He serves as a trusted advisor to his clients and has represented Columbia University, NYU, and Fordham University in their Manhattan expansions.
In addition, he has advised Extell, Silverstein, Fetner Properties, and other leading developers and financial and media companies as well as major universities in obtaining government approvals. Wallace currently advises Hornblower, the city’s ferry provider, and serves as outside national counsel to JCDecaux, the world’s largest street furniture company. Wallace is very active in the New York civic community. He serves as vice-chairman of the French American Foundation and serves as vice president and outside general counsel to the Citizens Budget Commission. He is an emeritis board member of New Yorkers for Parks, where he previously served as chair.
Ciparick, who advises clients on appellate matters and litigation strategy, mentors Greenberg Traurig’s junior lawyers as well and is active in the firm’s pro bono program. She was appointed by Mayor Bill de Blasio to serve as chair of the Mayor's Advisory Committee on the Judiciary and is active in public service, serving on the Permanent Commission on Access to Justice, the New York Courts Historical Society, and the New York State Indigent Legal Services Board. She was also appointed by the Chief Judge to co-chair the New York Justice Task Force and currently chairs the New York State Board of Law Examiners. Additionally, she serves on several non-profit boards, including The Fund for Modern Courts, The Office of the Appellate Defender, and the Visiting Nurse Service of New York. Ciparick spent 19 years on New York State’s highest court and 15 years on the trial bench. She was appointed on Dec. 1, 1993, by Governor Mario M. Cuomo, and was re-appointed by Governor Eliot Spitzer in November 2007.
