Laura E. Evangelista, Global Co-Chair of Greenberg Traurig's Insurance Regulatory and Transactions Practice Group, focuses her practice on insurance regulatory matters. Laura previously served as Executive Deputy Superintendent at the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS), where she led the Department’s insurance division, which regulates approximately 1,700 insurers with assets exceeding $4 trillion.

In her role at the DFS, Laura supervised all substantive insurance matters, including financial solvency examinations, market conduct examinations and insurance company acquisitions. She worked on policy initiatives, including formulation of regulations and industry guidance. Laura also served as a liaison to regulated entities, trade associations, and consumer groups on emerging issues and coordinated the department’s involvement with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Prior to her government work, Laura served as legal counsel for a boutique international insurance broker and reinsurance intermediary, as well as an insurance litigator at national and regional law firms.
