Sea Change in Warsaw: Greenberg Traurig Adds Top Tier Real Estate Teams to Its Market-Leading Private Equity, M&A, and Capital Markets Presence

Firm attracts teams from Allen & Overy and Norton Rose Fulbright

New York – May 13, 2015 – As part of a strategy to strengthen one of the top International Real Estate Practices, global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has added two leading real estate teams in Central Europe to its existing group. The addition of 12 new attorneys to the Warsaw office has created one of the largest and most diversified real estate practices in the region.

Radomił Charzyński, formerly head of real estate at the Warsaw office of Allen & Overy, and Agnieszka Stankiewicz, formerly head of real estate at the Warsaw office of Norton Rose Fulbright, joined Greenberg Traurig as shareholders, along with two local partners and eight associates—bringing with them their entire teams.

“In our view, Warsaw is the central business hub of Central Europe, and Greenberg Traurig is already tier one in M&A, Private Equity, Capital Markets, and Tax, with great strength in banking, finance, and restructuring,” said Richard A. Rosenbaum, chief executive officer of Greenberg Traurig. “The simultaneous addition of two leading real estate teams to this office is tremendously exciting, coming at a time when this asset class is becoming so important worldwide, in a firm whose goal is to be the leader in real estate globally as we are in the United States, in one of Europe’s most dynamic real estate markets, and in a firm that is unified globally as one business and one culture.”

“Our practice is built upon our commitment to strategic growth, excellence in client service, and a desire to make a positive contribution to the legal profession and the communities in which we operate. Having a team that exemplifies these traits join our Warsaw office is a great honor for us,” said Robert Ivanhoe, co-chair of the firm’s Global Real Estate Practice.

Rosenbaum added: “We are appreciative of Lejb Fogelman and Jarosław Grzesiak, our Warsaw leaders, for their strong leadership and support for our international real estate practice. During a period of nearly 50 years this practice has consistently delivered high quality, multidisciplinary legal services for all types of property investment, development, management, and real estate finance.”

“Adding this team to our already robust practice is a tremendous win for us and for our clients who require a firm with a dynamic real estate presence,” said Jarosław Grzesiak.

Greenberg Traurig advises on landmark transactions and regularly garners top industry honors, including recent recognition by U.S. News - Best Lawyers® as "Law Firm of the Year" in Real Estate Law.

The addition of Stankiewicz and Charzyński follows the recruitment of veteran real estate Shareholder Eric Rosedale, who joined the firm as chair of International Real Estate from Dentons in 2014. Rosedale’s role includes developing the firm’s award-winning real estate practice outside of the United States. The expansion in Central Europe is a significant milestone toward enhancing the firm’s international real estate platform.

“This is an exciting development for our International Real Estate Practice and a significant step in the growth and integration of our network and capabilities in strategic locations outside of the United States,” Rosedale said. Included in the team who joined with Stankiewicz and Charzyński, are Karol Brzoskowski from Allen & Overy and Magdalena Życzkowska-Jóźwiak from Norton Rose. Both Brzoskowski and Życzkowska-Jóźwiak joined as local partners.

The group joined the 18 existing real estate specialists on the firm’s team in Warsaw. Greenberg Traurig’s Warsaw office, which opened in May 2012, has now grown to 80 lawyers and is an integral part of the firm. The expanded real estate group will work closely with the office’s highly rated capital markets, finance, and M&A practices.

Stankiewicz and Charzynski each bring more than 15 years of legal experience in real estate, focusing their practices on advising foreign and domestic investors in connection with joint ventures, acquisitions, property development, real estate finance, and sale leaseback transactions.

The International Real Estate Group at Greenberg Traurig is one of the largest in the world among leading international law firms. The group includes more than 400 specialists in all aspects of real estate law and related areas such as corporate, M&A, private equity, capital markets, finance, tax, and funds. More than 80 members of the international real estate team work outside of the United States, across a growing network of offices and alliances that span Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
