Equal Justice Works Honors Greenberg Traurig at 30th Anniversary Dinner Celebration

WASHINGTON - Oct. 26, 2016 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig will be honored by Equal Justice Works  at the nonprofit organization’s 30th Anniversary Dinner, at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 27. Greenberg Traurig will be recognized for its longstanding contributions to Equal Justice Works. The firm’s Senior Chairman Cesar L. Alvarez, a former Equal Justice Works Board Member, will receive the award on behalf of the firm. Regional Operating Shareholder Michael L. Lehr, who has served on the Equal Justice Works Board for several years, will join him.

“This recognition is a great honor for Greenberg Traurig, particularly because it is from Equal Justice Works –an organization near and dear to our firm,” Alvarez said. “For almost 20 years, we have consistently worked alongside Equal Justice Works, by partnering to sponsor Fellows through the Holly Skolnick Fellowship Foundation, to achieve equal justice for individuals and communities in need.”

“Greenberg Traurig is a firm that values giving back to the communities in which we live and work. Pro bono legal representation literally saves lives. We are proud of our current and former Fellows, who have dedicated hundreds of thousands of hours of free legal services to those who need assistance; we are also proud to receive this recognition from Equal Justice Works, an organization that works tirelessly to address the legal needs of so many underserved low-income communities,” said Caroline J. Heller, shareholder and chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Pro Bono Program.

Since 1999, Greenberg Traurig has sponsored 142 Equal Justice Works Fellows by contributing $10 million. These Fellows, working on issues ranging from community development and disability rights to domestic violence and immigration, have delivered critically needed legal services in more than 40 cities across the United States through local nonprofit organizations.

In addition to Greenberg Traurig’s special recognition, CNN political analyst David Gregory will be the master of ceremonies at the Dinner and Kelly McNamara Corley, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Discover Financial Services, will receive the 2016 Scales of Justice Award.
