Steven Margolin, Respected Delaware Litigator, Joins Greenberg Traurig as Shareholder in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. - Aug. 18, 2016 - Respected Delaware litigator Steven T. Margolin joined Greenberg Traurig, LLP as a shareholder in the firm’s Wilmington office and will lead the firm’s Delaware Litigation Practice. He served as both a lead litigator/advisor in high-stakes cases and as co-counsel for various Am Law 100 firms throughout his career. He was previously at Ashby & Geddes, P.A., where he had been a director since 2001.

"We could not be more excited to have a litigator of Steven's caliber join our firm. He is not just an outstanding lawyer but also a wonderful person and an established member of the Delaware community," said Brian L. Duffy, Greenberg Traurig’s Chief Executive Officer. “Steven strengthens our Delaware practice and brings it to a new level in order to better serve the firm’s clients and expand our presence in a state whose law and courts have a major impact on the business world.”

“Steven, a native of Delaware, has more than 20 years of experience litigating a broad range of cases in all of the Delaware courts, including the Court of Chancery, as well as in the federal courts located here,” said Diane N. Ibrahim, the office’s Operating Shareholder. “Steven is also well-known as an excellent resource for clients with regard to the many corporate matters governed by Delaware law. He embodies the Greenberg Traurig culture of excellence in the delivery of legal services that attracts elite-level talent and allows us to be of value to clients.”

Margolin focuses his practice on corporate and commercial litigation, representing business entities, officers, directors, and investors across a wide variety of business sectors, including banking, finance, industry, and technology. In addition to his litigation practice, Margolin provides legal opinions on topics of Delaware law and serves as Special Committee Counsel to boards of directors seeking advice concerning litigation or transactional issues.

Margolin has represented both plaintiffs and defendants throughout his career, developing or clarifying Delaware law in several notable cases (including In re: Appraisal of Transkaryotic Therapies, Inc. and ATR-Kim Eng Financial Corporation v. Carlos R. Araneta, et al.) and successfully defending a CEO against breach of fiduciary duty claims in an action that sought to hold the CEO personally liable for $120 million.

Margolin received his J.D., with honors, from Dickinson School of Law, where he was an editor of The Dickinson Law Review, in 1992. He received his B.S. in Finance, magna cum laude, from the University of Delaware in 1989. He is admitted to practice in Delaware, the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
