POLITICO Florida's Christine Sexton conducted an exclusive Q&A with Fred Karlinsky, a prominent insurance lobbyist and a member of the Constitution Revision Commission, to talk about his appointment to the CRC. Below is an edited transcript of the interview.

Did you ask Gov Rick Scott to appoint you to the Constitution Revision Commission?

I am honored and humbled that Governor Scott appointed me to this very important commission. The governor and I discussed it a few times, but I can't pinpoint a specific date. Obviously, the Constitution Revision Commission is an important apparatus of state government. It only happens every 20 years. This is only the third one in history and it's the only way that ideas can get directly on the ballot.

I was born in Florida and I've lived here all my life, and I plan on living here the rest of my life. This is one way, just like my service on the Judicial Nominating Commission, that I can give back.
