Greenberg Traurig Conducts 5th Annual ‘Lawyer for a Day’ Program

ATLANTA, GA – May 15, 2017 – More than 20 attorneys and business staff in the Atlanta office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP participated in the fifth annual “Lawyer for a Day” program as mentors, instructors, or participants. Launched in 2011, the program provides Atlanta’s youth with professional mentorship opportunities and an introduction to the legal field.

“Lawyer for a Day” is a six-week law course and mock trial competition for ninth and tenth grade students from the City of Atlanta. The fifth annual program began in December 2016 and culminated with a mock trial on April 22, 2017, with a mock trial. The program was designed by Greenberg Traurig shareholders Ernest LaMont Greer and Richard J. Valladares for the 100 Black Men of Atlanta and is held in conjunction with Atlanta Public Schools and B.E.S.T. Academy. In addition the leadership of Greer and Valladares, Joy Tallington facilitates the program each year.

“The success of the ‘Lawyer for a Day’ program shows how important it is to offer mentorship and educational opportunities to Atlanta’s youth,” said Valladares, chair of the Atlanta Business Litigation Practice. “Our attorneys and staff greatly enjoy working with these talented students each year and continue to be inspired by the efforts that participants put into the program.”

The program will continue in 2018, led by Shareholder Janna S. Nugent, as well as associates Robert J. Mollohan and Joshua Portnoy.
