Robert Sanders Receives Illumination Award from Palm Beach County's Northwest Community Consortium

WEST PALM BEACH – April 25, 2019 – Robert Sanders, of counsel with global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A., received the Illumination Award from the Northwest Community Consortium, Inc. (NCCI) at the nonprofit’s 6th Annual Illumination Awards Luncheon held on April 25 at the Hilton Hotel in West Palm Beach. The award honors those who have significantly contributed to the Northwest neighborhood in the City of West Palm Beach and the broader community at large.

NCCI provides a broad array of programs and services to revitalize West Palm's Northwest neighborhood, with the goal of improving the quality of life for all residents. The organization’s 6th Annual Illumination Luncheon is themed “Creating Environments that Promote Health & Wellness.”

Sanders, who is a member of Greenberg Traurig’s Government Law & Policy Practice and the Real Estate Practice, also serves as chair of the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors. He was instrumental in helping NCCI obtain city approval for the NCCI health clinic to operate at the U.B. Kinsey Learning Center in the Northwest neighborhood. NCCI is partnering with Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Nursing School to run the clinic when it opens in June 2019.

“I am both humbled and honored to receive this recognition from NCCI, which has accomplished so much for the residents of the historic Northwest neighborhood,” said Sanders, who served as City Administrator for the City of West Palm Beach prior to joining Greenberg Traurig. “With the clinic’s opening, we will be closer than ever before to achieving the vital goal of health equity, which impacts quality of life for all of our residents.”

At Greenberg Traurig’s West Palm Beach office, Sanders focuses his practice on governmental, administrative, and real estate matters. Recently, Sanders played a key role in obtaining the necessary land-use approvals for The Bristol, considered to have elevated the luxury residential condominium market in West Palm Beach

While with the City of West Palm Beach, Sanders, who has both accounting and law degrees, led West Palm Beach’s revitalization efforts as its strategist, key negotiator, and facilitator in significant economic impact development projects and transactions. During his tenure, he played a key role in several projects that elevated the city, including the Palm Beach County Convention Center, the redevelopment of the West Palm Beach Auditorium and baseball stadium site, and CityPlace.

Sanders, a former chairman of The Governors Club of the Palm Beaches and a past president of the Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, has also been active within Palm Beach County’s nonprofit community, volunteering his time as a fundraiser and chairman for several worthy causes. These include the West Palm Beach Library Foundation, the Adam Walsh Children’s Fund, the Palm Beach International Film Festival, the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Florida, and Cities in Schools, a high school dropout prevention program.
