Greenberg Traurig Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Increases Focus on Southeast Region

MIAMI – May 29, 2019 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Intellectual Property & Technology Practice has increased its focus on the southeast region by expanding the practice to meet the demands of clients and technology companies in the region.

Alan N. Sutin, Greenberg Traurig’s senior chair of the Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice and chair of the Technology & Media Telecommunications Practice, has relocated to the Miami office after 25 years in the firm’s New York office. His move complements other recent additions in the region that include Shareholder Scott W. Doyle and Associate Vishesh Narayen, who recently joined the Tampa office, and Shareholder Robert A. King, who is based in the firm’s Atlanta office.

Greenberg Traurig has more than 200 intellectual property attorneys and professionals. The practice has been named a “National Tier 1” law firm for IP Litigation, Patent Law, Trademark, and Information Technology Law by U.S. News and Best Lawyers, 2018 “Best Law Firms Rankings.”

“In the last 10 years South Florida has grown to become a significant player as a region for successful technology companies,” Sutin said. “With more than 100 technology companies that have a presence in the South Florida region, this seemed like the right time to put an increased focus on our practice in the southeast region, and to further enhance the local resources available to serve our clients.”

Greenberg Traurig already has a vibrant IP and Technology practice in Florida that includes Miami office Shareholder Manuel R. Valcarcel and Associate Sandy Chiu; Orlando office Shareholders Joshua R. Brown and Gregory W. Herbert, and Associate Corinne Miller LaGosh; and Tallahassee office Shareholder Lorence Jon Bielby and Associate Michael H. Moody.

“Our attorneys have already helped to play an important role in South Florida’s recognition as the number one market in the U.S. for startup activity, but now we are excited to help take the region’s technology eco-system to the next level,” said Jaret L. Davis, co-managing shareholder of the Miami office, who worked with other firm leaders to establish a global reputation as a dominant player in the technology industry.

Sutin’s move to Miami marks a homecoming because he began his legal career in South Florida 36 years ago before becoming one of the first two IP lawyers at Greenberg Traurig in 1994. An experienced business lawyer, Sutin focuses on commercial transactions involving intellectual property and technology issues, as well as privacy, and cybersecurity matters. He also has done a wide range of work for fashion and luxury brands such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Godiva.
