Joel A. Katz, Lori G. Cohen Honored at Georgia Legal Awards by Daily Report

Katz receives a Lifetime Achievement Award; Cohen honored with a Best Mentor Award

ATLANTA – June 21, 2019 – Joel A. Katz, Founding Chairman of the Global Entertainment and Media Practice, and Lori G. Cohen, co-chair of the Global Litigation Practice, at Greenberg Traurig, LLP were honored at the Daily Report’s Georgia Legal Awards. Katz received a Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given to lawyers who have left a lasting imprint on the legal community of Georgia. Cohen received a Best Mentor Award, which recognizes lawyers who have helped less-experienced colleagues become better lawyers.

Katz is an internationally renowned entertainment attorney, ranked as Billboard magazine's number-one entertainment attorney in its “Power 100” list of most powerful executives in the music business. The world’s most famous entertainers place their trust in him to craft the breakthrough deals that boost their careers, cultivate their talents and safeguard their assets. His star-studded client roster includes music industry legends from an array of genres, as well as music producers, record companies, concert promoters and corporate heavy hitters. A powerful force in the entertainment industry, Katz has played a profound role in shaping his profession and in spearheading philanthropic endeavors.

As co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Litigation Practice, Cohen leads a group of more than 600 attorneys nationally and internationally. She is also chair of the firm's Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Practice and chair of the Trial Practice Group. With an extraordinary trial record of 57 defense verdicts, Cohen is one of the nation’s top litigators. She uses her phenomenal success to create opportunities for junior attorneys, promote dedicated team members of all backgrounds, and help the next generation of legal leaders navigate the options and avenues within the firm and across the legal profession. In an industry where two-thirds of all attorneys in civil cases are men and only a quarter of women serve as lead or trial counsel, Cohen stands out as a female “first chair” trial attorney and a champion for women and diverse attorneys.

“It comes as no surprise that Joel and Lori have received these awards," said Atlanta Managing Shareholder Theodore I. Blum. “As the Founding Atlanta Managing Shareholder, we owe a great deal of our success to Joel’s foresight in joining Greenberg Traurig and opening the Atlanta office in 1998. As for Lori, I can personally attest that she is an extraordinary mentor who has built a seamless bridge between generations of lawyers across practice groups—all of whom revere her for her tireless dedication to her clients and commitment to her fellow attorneys. She has helped GT create a culture that supports and values mentorship. I am proud to call both Joel and Lori friends and colleagues.”

Honorees were recognized at a dinner hosted by the Daily Report on June 20. Established in 1890, the Daily Report is a daily legal newspaper based in Atlanta, Georgia.
