Greenberg Traurig’s Jaret Davis and Nikki Lewis Simon Speak at FIU’s Diversity Day

MIAMI  – Oct. 21, 2020 – Jaret L. Davis, co-managing shareholder of the Miami office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A., and Nikki Lewis Simon, firm shareholder and Chief Diversity Officer, participated in Florida International University’s (FIU) 2020 Diversity Day presentation “Addressing the implicit bias that lies within:  How to combat implicit bias in society”.

The event held virtually on Oct. 20 for faculty, students, and staff is part of FIU’s efforts to advance diversity throughout its community. The presentation focused on defining, identifying, and unlearning implicit bias in society.

“We are proud to participate in FIU’s Diversity Day because we know firsthand the importance of social justice, equity, and inclusion training programs. Education and awareness are the first steps to action, which is why discussions like this one about implicit bias are critical to building awareness,” Davis and Simon said in a joint statement. “It is easy for stereotypes stemming from implicit bias to creep into many aspects of our society: schools, civic institutions, places of work, and beyond. We must be committed to not only identifying, but unlearning these behaviors.”

Davis has co-led Greenberg Traurig’s Miami office for over a decade and is a shareholder in the firm’s Corporate Practice. He oversees approximately 170 attorneys and 200 business staff based in the firm’s founding office and focuses his corporate and securities practice on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, and large financings. Davis has also served as one of several leaders of Greenberg Traurig’s efforts globally to be a dominant player in the information technology industry.

Simon, a commercial litigator based in Miami, has more than 21 years of experience as a lawyer, including practical and professional experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion. In her capacity as Greenberg Traurig’s Chief Diversity Officer, Simon designs and guides strategic initiatives and programs to deepen firmwide diversity and inclusion efforts that further enrich client engagements and community investments. Her role is indicative of, and integral to, Greenberg Traurig’s core values of collaboration and inclusion.
