CHICAGO – Nov. 10, 2022 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Chicago office was honored at the inaugural Lawyers in the Classroom (LIC) Civic Appreciation Awards. The firm was recognized for its commitment to and partnership with Chicago school students in engaging, educating, and empowering the next generation of civic participants and leaders. Greenberg Traurig Shareholder and Chicago Pro Bono Co-Coordinator Howard K. Jeruchimowitz and Associate Michael A. Feldman accepted the award at the event Nov. 3. Jeruchimowitz and Feldman co-chair Greenberg Traurig’s participation in the Lawyers in the Classroom program.
The LIC program, which is administered through the Chicago Bar Association, has been providing civic and justice education to Chicago elementary and middle school students for more than 30 years. It currently reaches nearly 5,000 students in Chicagoland schools each year. Attorneys from Greenberg Traurig Chicago regularly volunteer with LIC to provide interactive learning opportunities that allow students to enhance critical thinking, collaboration, and civil discourse skills.
“Through our 14-year partnership with the LIC program, we have been able to provide grade-specific civic education to Chicago-area students with the goal of helping students define the trajectory of their futures,” Jeruchimowitz said. “It gives students the opportunity to learn from us and our real-life experiences, but it is also a fun and rewarding experience for us.”
Several Greenberg Traurig attorneys participate in the LIC program each year. This year, volunteers included Jeruchimowitz and Feldman as well as Associate Tess Bolger.
