Greenberg Traurig adds Former White & Case Arbitration and Litigation Head and Co-Office Head in Warsaw

WARSAW – Oct. 29, 2015 – Attorney Paweł Pietkiewicz, former head of the litigation and arbitration practice at the Warsaw office of White & Case, and also the former co-head of its Warsaw office, has now joined the office of Greenberg Traurig in that city as a partner and head of the 10-attorney-strong litigation and arbitration team.

Greenberg Traurig Partner Andrzej Wysokiński, who will continue to concentrate on the further development of the banking and finance practice, had also previously been leading the litigation practice.

"The recent successes of our banking and finance practice, including reaching a top-tier position in this year’s IFLR ranking for the first time, led to our decision to separate the leadership of the banking and finance practice from that of the litigation and arbitration practice,” said Lejb Fogelman, Senior Partner of the Warsaw office and head of the M&A practice for Greenberg Traurig in Poland.

“With the management of the litigation and arbitration practice being taken over by such an excellent lawyer as Paweł Pietkiewicz, Andrzej Wysokiński will be able to concentrate on the further development of the banking and finance practice,” said Jarosław Grzesiak, the managing partner of Greenberg Traurig's Polish operations.

"The diversity of the practices in our Warsaw office, as well as the breadth and depth of both the international experience and client base of the firm in the field of litigation and arbitration, provide a strong foundation for further development of our Poland practice in this area. I am pleased to hand over the leadership of such a great team to Paweł Pietkiewicz,” said Wysokiński.

“I could not be more excited by the dramatic evolution we are participating in and supporting in this exceptional Warsaw office of Greenberg Traurig,” said Richard A. Rosenbaum, Chief Executive Officer of Greenberg Traurig. "We are already tier one in Real Estate, M&A, Private Equity, Capital Markets, and Tax, with great strength in banking, finance, and restructuring. The addition of Paweł Pietkiewicz, a respected and busy practitioner in the global litigation and arbitration arenas, meshes well with the firm’s large practice in these areas and our goal to be the leader in one of Europe’s most dynamic markets."

“As we have seen over these years in the United States, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and most recently Berlin, this is another example of our strategy of delivering elite quality and extraordinary value to our clients and a trusting, respectful and empowering culture for our talent. All of this while we strengthen one of our top legal practices, attracting quality practitioners in areas key to our clients in important international markets. In Warsaw, this comes on the heels of our recent growth in the International Real Estate Practice by adding two leading real estate teams in Central Europe to our existing group,” said Rosenbaum. The addition of 12 new attorneys to the Warsaw office created one of the largest and most diversified real estate practices in the region.

Having Pietkiewicz assuming leadership of the litigation and arbitration practice in Warsaw coincides with the return to that office of legal advisor Daniel Kaczorowski, a local partner who will continue to strengthen the M&A practice.

“Daniel Kaczorowski is an excellent lawyer who started his legal career on our team. We are therefore pleased that he has come back to us,” said Grzesiak.

The litigation and arbitration team of the Greenberg Traurig Warsaw office comprises 10 lawyers who focus on representing clients in proceedings before courts of all instances, tribunals, public administration, as well as in domestic and international arbitration proceedings. Greenberg Traurig's Litigation Department comprises more than 600 litigators in 36 offices throughout the United States and in Latin America, Europe, and Asia.
