Chitimacha Tribal Nation Opioid Trial Advocacy Training

Greenberg Traurig Litigation Shareholders Ruth Bahe-Jachna and Mark Stratton will participate in the Chitimacha Tribal Nation Opioid Trial Advocacy Training taking place from January 20 - 22. This is a three-day, immersive program designed to strengthen trial advocacy skills for legal professionals within the Chitimacha Tribal Nation’s court and judicial system. Through hands-on exercises, simulations, and experienced faculty-led instruction, participants will learn how to effectively present criminal cases, preserve the record, and apply evidentiary best practices to reduce the risk of convictions being overturned on appeal. This training emphasizes practical courtroom techniques, culturally informed approaches, and strategies tailored to the unique challenges of tribal and federal interface in criminal matters.

Participants will learn to:
  • Develop core trial advocacy skills (case theory, opening statements, direct/cross examination, and closing arguments) in criminal matters relevant to the Chitimacha Tribal Nation.
  • Apply evidentiary and procedural best practices to strengthen convictions and reduce reversals on appeal.
  • Improve courtroom presentation, witness preparation, and objection practice through simulated exercises and live feedback.
  • Integrate culturally informed approaches and federal/tribal interface considerations in case strategy.
