WARSAW – Dec. 13, 2018 – Greenberg Traurig, LLP advised on the sale of media rights relating to Ekstraklasa, the Polish premier football league, to the broadcasters nc+ and TVP for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons.
The transaction brings an innovative offer of TV rights packages licensed on the domestic market including, in addition to the traditional broadcaster the nc + platform, the public broadcaster TVP (FTA platform) in the circle of broadcasters of live matches. This will provide the general public with access to football matches in the next two seasons. The value of the transaction amounted to approximately PLN 500 million, which is a new record in the valuation of sports TV rights on the Polish market.
Greenberg Traurig represented Ekstraklasa S.A., the company managing the Polish premier football league and responsible for the sale of media rights, at all stages of the transaction, from organizing the tender procedure for the sale of media rights, through negotiations with bidders, to the conclusion of the licensing agreements with nc + and TVP.
