Distressed High Yield Bond Workout GroupMeet the Team >
Municipal bonds issued by public entities help fund public projects such as the construction of roads, schools and hospitals, among others. But when a borrowing institution’s finances or pledged revenue sources are under stress, a workout – or reorganization – is sometimes in order to protect Bondholders’ interests and maximize investment returns.
Greenberg Traurig’s Distressed High Yield Bond Workout Group consists of more than 25 attorneys across the nation. We take an interdisciplinary approach to bond workouts, combining our team’s considerable experience handling distressed high-yield bond situations including workouts, in- and out-of-court restructurings, receiverships, and bankruptcies with the expertise of more than 2,650 attorneys in 44 locations in the United States, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. We are able to offer our clients access to experienced professionals in virtually all related areas of the law including tax and tax credits, securities law and enforcement, and litigation, as well as sector-specific knowledge. In particular, our tax and securities lawyers have a deep understanding of distressed situations, with some having come from the agencies that regulate municipal bond debt.
Our dedicated team of attorneys skillfully handles the life cycle of municipal bond investments—from the issuance of new debt to the creative resolution of distressed and defaulted situations. The team collectively has decades of hands-on experience in the industries financed with municipal debt, including project finance, “dirt deals,” charter schools, private schools, higher education, student housing, hospitals, proton centers, toll roads and bridges, senior living facilities, military housing, prisons, hotel and convention centers, solid waste facilities, and renewable energy.
We represent some of the most significant financial institutions, bond trustees, and investors in complex business and insolvency litigation in bankruptcy and federal and state court proceedings as well as mediation and arbitration forums nationwide. In representing bond trustees, we leverage our deep experience in the corporate trust field. Our clients are sophisticated and experienced, and we work together to formulate and execute recovery strategies that work for them.
We have built a strong network of industry specific consultants and financial advisors that allows us to offer our clients access to critical advice and consultation when investment returns are in doubt. And in the event of litigation, our team is prepared to serve as fierce advocates for our clients.
